Dirty Detour is an adventure inspired gravel biking weekend for the whole family with the perfect party to ride combo.
With something for the whole family from camping by an open fire, luxury cabin accommodation, horse riding, walking trails, spotting platypus in the pristine Upper Karuah River or riding one of the three course options — all finished off with a beverage and music around the open fire with a bunch of great people.

Dirty Detour Monkerai is being run in the pristine Monkerai Valley NSW located in the foothills of the World Heritage Barrington Tops. The event centre & accommodation are at ‘Riverwood Downs’ a 750 acres property directly on the Upper Karuah River. Monkerai is under 3 hours from Sydney and 1.5 hours from Newcastle.
AusCycling Insurance is compulsory for all riders.
Existing AusCycling Members:

Yes. Rest stops will be present on all courses and stocked with water and snacks.
The 20km ride will have a station approximately half way
The 50km course will have 2 stations at approximately 8kms and 20kms
The 90km course will have 2 stations at approximately 45kms and 60kms
Gravel, mountain or eMtb are required. E-Bikes are more than welcome; however, battery range should be considered if you’re looking at the 90km course. Tyre selection will be critical for gravel bikes with some sections of the 90km course being quite rough, steep and challenging. Slicks are best left on the shelf for this one, with 40+mm tyres being the best option. Road bikes are not suitable for this event!
Appropriate Gravel, Mountain or E-Mountain Bike in good working order, Australian Standards approved helmet is mandatory, Spares kit including: tube, pump or CO2 cylinders, phone, bike multi-tool, fluids – bottles or camelbacks, food, appropriate footwear, sun cream. All riders should be prepared to be self sufficient.
Yes the event is on open public roads, and NSW road rules will apply at all times. Please note the 50km & 90km course does access private property & can only be ridden in full during the event as we have exclusive access to the property. Please respect the local land owners so we can continue coming back.

Yes, coffee will be available from early Saturday & Sunday morning. Volunteers will be on the BBQ all day Saturday & Sunday morning. Post ride food & dinner will be available at the event centre on Saturday afternoon/evening, consisting of wood fired pizzas, or slow cooked smoked meats.
Alternatively the on-site restaurant ‘Barrington Bar & Grill’ is open Friday & Saturday night for sit down meals, Bookings are required.
Open Fire, Live Music, Craft Beer, Wine and good times! The local legends at The TinShed Brewery will be serving up a storm at the bar for all the tired bodies to sit around relaxing by the campfire.
Tin Shed will be serving their specialty craft beer with a one-off specialty event beer just for Dirty Detour which will be labelled with our very own limited-edition branding. A variety of local wines and cider will be available, along with soft drinks.
Pre ride registration will be open on the Friday evening at Riverwood Downs, Book a Bunkhouse room and come hang out by the fire.
On Saturday morning registration will open at 7.30am at Event HQ Riverwood Downs, 90km ride starts at 8.40am, 50km ride starts at 10.45am and the 20km at 11.45am. All rides are scheduled in a manner to have riders finish after lunch with plenty of time to enjoy the after party.

Your entry gets you an organised event with a marked and marshalled course, on course feed stations, first aid support, mechanical support, limited edition calico bag, finishers beverage thanks to our partners the TinShed Brewery, music and a licensed after party, & entry into a lucky door prize draw thanks to our ride partners.
Yes. The minimum age for:
20km course is 10 years old. Riders aged 10 to 14 years old must be accompanied by a parent/guardian
50km course is 12 years old. Riders aged 12 to 16 years old must be accompanied by a parent/guardian
90km course is 16 years old
Note on Ages: We have set the ages to reflect the standard of ability to safely participate in the event. If your child is experienced then we can give special consideration. Please contact us at info@dirtydetour.com.au to seek permission to enter children under the age category. Please note a small amount of traffic will be present on some sections of the course.
Tickets are non-refundable, ride transfers are available to future events. If you have extenuating circumstances please contact us at info@dirtydetour.com.au. If the event manager approves a refund, they will be subject to a 10% processing fee.
In the event of cancellation due to COVID-19, the event will be rescheduled, and all registered riders will have their race registration moved to the new event date.
If for reasons beyond the Event Organisers control the event does not take place at all in 2023 or beyond (including reasons relating to COVID-19), all registered riders will have their race registrations refunded.
Not ready to ride the course but still want to be part of the excitement of Dirty Detour? Volunteering is a great way to experience our events, meet new people and have fun along the way. It is the result of hard working volunteers that add to the event’s success and help create a safe and enjoyable experience for participants. So, get involved and help our riders safely make it to the after party.
All volunteers receive a FREE event tee, water and food supplies.
